Description | 🔵 AAC is a proprietary format with lossy compression that was created as an alternative to MP3, offering higher quality coding. Frequencies beyond human perception are removed during compression. AAC files are half the size of MP3 files, containing only 1/10 of the digital data found on a CD.This format has been widely used since 1997, as the seventh release in the MPEG-2 family. It is supported by hardware players and highly favored by music fans. AAC has become particularly popular in Apple products and is the default format used in iTunes. |
Technical details | 🔵 The format concept is similar to MP3, but more advanced. It has the ability to achieve greater compression, making it a separate part of the MPEG-4 standard used to create smaller audio files. AAC is highly efficient, supporting variable and continuous bitrate, with a sampling frequency of 8-96 kHz.The current version complies with the ISO/IEC 14496-3 standard. Compression is based on the auditory masking effect, allowing for data reduction without compromising sound quality. |

Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec File

Category | 🔵 audio |

Main program | 🔵 Audacity |
Description | 🔵 AMR is a compressed file format that is designed to improve speech coding and includes multiple sampling rates for narrowband devices used in encoding or decoding. AMR files can be recorded using mobile phones. To play video and audio files simultaneously or achieve random access memory, one can use the 3GPP format. Each frame contains 160 20-millisecond samples that are encoded using AMR with ACELP, DTX, VAD, and CNG. Recorded AMR files can be converted to other formats for distribution and use. |
Technical details | 🔵 AMR is capable of encoding signals in the range of 4.75 to 12.2 kbit/s, with quality starting at 7.4 kbit/s. 3GPP adopted this file format in 1999, which is used by GSM and UMTS. It employs link adaptation to choose from eight different bit rates. AMR optimizes link adaptation by selecting the best codec devices for use on radio channels and capacity requirements. However, this optimization only works if the connection is strong enough to prevent any loss of audio quality. |
