HEVC file format

Extension.hevc
Categoryvideo
DescriptionHEVC is a recent and improved codec. It’s also known as h.265. This format has the least rate of bits with no impact on the quality of the image. There are 3 primary features of the codec that make it different from other formats. The features include larger maximum size of block, access to images randomly within the stream of video, and decoding parallel. Like the quality of video offered by AVC or h.265, HEVC provides the same level. HEVC has better compressing quality. So, when you compress a video file with codec, it will be half in size.
Technical detailsH.264 causes an image to get broken down into pixel squares or macroblocks. In cases of HEVC, images get broken down into units of Coding Tree or CTUs, and it can be a maximum of 64x64 pixels. For h.264, every macroblock can only have a prediction of intraframe or interframe. In the interframe compressing process, the borrowing of pixels occurs from a video’s adjacent frames. Intraframe compressing process borrows the pixels within the frame of the same video. CTUs utilize a mixed compressing process of interframe and intraframe in HEVC. So, regarding the preservation of details in images with complexities, there are various methods.
