DescriptionAAC is a proprietary format with lossy compression that was created as an alternative to MP3, offering higher quality coding. Frequencies beyond human perception are removed during compression. AAC files are half the size of MP3 files, containing only 1/10 of the digital data found on a CD.This format has been widely used since 1997, as the seventh release in the MPEG-2 family. It is supported by hardware players and highly favored by music fans. AAC has become particularly popular in Apple products and is the default format used in iTunes.
Technical detailsThe format concept is similar to MP3, but more advanced. It has the ability to achieve greater compression, making it a separate part of the MPEG-4 standard used to create smaller audio files. AAC is highly efficient, supporting variable and continuous bitrate, with a sampling frequency of 8-96 kHz.The current version complies with the ISO/IEC 14496-3 standard. Compression is based on the auditory masking effect, allowing for data reduction without compromising sound quality.
