DescriptionHigh efficiency image file format (HEIC) is coded by HEVC codec (High efficiency Video Compression). It is usually used by Apple for the HEIF image format. It contains an image sequence and it is good for live photos. The best part is, it is storage saving. It can store two times more pictures than the JPEG format in the same storage as it has the next-generation file compression.
Technical detailsHEIC is a lossy compressed format coded by HEVC, which was flourished by MPEG too. Both have transparency and can store multiple images. Differing from JPG files, which allows 8-bit colors, HEIC files can handle 16-bit colors. HEIC files are not free from compatibility issues. Still, today, third-party apps and computer programs have issues interpreting HEIC files. IOS users may forcibly stop storing images as HEIC format by changing settings.
