Description	.jpeg (Joint Photographic Experts Group) JPEG is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web.
Technical details	The JPEG (.jpeg or .jpg) format, created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group, is widely used for digital photo and online images. It employs lossy compression, reducing file size by omitting some image data, allowing a balance between size and quality. JPEG usually uses the YCbCr color model (8 bits per channel) and supports sRGB color space, RGB, and CMYK models. Compression levels are adjustable, affecting both size and quality: higher compression decreases size and quality, while lower compression increases both. JPEG images can be scaled down with minimal quality loss but scaling up can degrade quality. The format supports extensive metadata and offers progressive JPEGs for gradual loading on slow connections. Widely compatible, JPEG is ideal for photography but less so for sharp contrast images like line drawings or text.
